Suffering with anxiety and depression can leave you feeling utterly isolated, lost and lonely. I know because I went through this experience. When I was at my worst, my friends and family would stop coming round, leaving me to sink further into depression. It was a vicious cycle that I felt I might never get out of.
It certainly wasn’t their fault and I can’t blame them. They were just experiencing real frustration that they couldn’t help me, and couldn’t work out what was best. My condition was also having a significant effect on them also, not just on me. It wasn’t because they didn’t care about me, it was because supporting someone with anxiety and depression can become an extremely challenging task.
It becomes even harder when you do not understand the emotions you are experiencing and you have not been equipped with the skills to manage anxiety and depression.
