Counselling Services
North Tyneside and Northumberland Online, Phone or In-house
Counselling is a confidential and supportive space where you can talk openly about what is going on in your life without fear of judgement. It is a professional relationship built on trust, empathy and respect, designed to help you better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
At its heart, counselling is about strengthening personal resilience. Rather than focusing only on problems, we work with you to recognise your existing strengths and build on them. Together, we explore practical strategies and new perspectives that can help you manage challenges more effectively, make informed decisions, and feel more in control of your life.
Our counselling service supports people with a wide range of needs, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, trauma, and relationship difficulties. We also support individuals who may simply feel overwhelmed or stuck and need a safe space to reflect and move forward.
Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. We work at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you, whether that’s developing coping strategies, improving emotional wellbeing, or gaining clarity around difficult situations.
Our team includes both qualified volunteers and paid accredited counsellors who are committed to providing professional, compassionate care. By offering low-cost counselling from £20 per session, we aim to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from accessing the support they need.
Counselling is not about being told what to do. It is about being heard, understood, and supported to find your own path towards improved wellbeing and resilience.
Which Talking Therapy is Right for Me?
If you are unsure about choosing between counselling and psychotherapy, we can help you talk it through and make a decision. We believe it is usually better to start small and progress from there. Our counsellors are members of BACP or NSCP and are experts in various areas such as anxiety counselling, PTSD, depression counselling, anger management, abuse counselling, bereavement and grief counselling, stress management and low self-esteem.
Face to Face and Online Counselling Sessions
We offer 1-1 and online counselling sessions. If you can commit to attending scheduled sessions, please apply. Non-attendance at scheduled sessions reduces the availability of sessions for our members and has a cost to the charity. If you miss a session without letting us know you will be removed.
Cost of the Service
Anxious Minds runs a low-cost counselling service from £20 per session. We encourage you to discuss your counselling needs with your GP first if you feel able to do so. Your GP can refer you to a range of general and specialist mental health services, so talking openly with your GP may help you access the right service the first time around.
Contact Us
Counselling is accessed by an internal referral system. Please speak to a member of our staff who can help you with this. Give us a call and the Counselling Coordinator will discuss this with you when we can allocate you to a counsellor.

Community Mental Health Services
For the past six years, Anxious Minds has provided award-winning Drop-in and Recovery Services, offering a vital safe haven for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Our services are accessible to all, regardless of age, background, or level of need, and are designed to reduce stigma, isolation, and crisis through early, community-based support.
Our Drop-in model allows people to access immediate, non-clinical help without referral or long waiting times. It offers a welcoming, informal space where individuals can receive emotional support, practical advice, and take part in wellbeing activities. Our Recovery Services provide structured follow-on care, including one-to-one counselling, group therapy, and peer support.
We’ve supported thousands across the North East, improving mental health outcomes, fostering resilience, and empowering individuals to rebuild their lives. Our person-centred, grassroots approach has been widely recognised and praised. With continued investment, we can expand our reach and ensure no one faces mental health challenges alone.

The Veteran & Community Kitchen
Join Us at the Veteran and Community Kitchen!
At Anxious Minds, we believe in more than just feeding the body; we feed the soul. Our Veteran and Community Kitchen is more than just a place to eat—it’s a sanctuary for individuals and families teetering on the brink of crisis. Every week, we provide a warm, welcoming environment where veterans and members of the community can come together, share a meal and find much-needed support.
Why Our Kitchen Matters
- A Lifeline in Crisis: For many, our kitchen is the first point of contact in accessing a wide range of support services. It’s a space where they are met with understanding, respect and practical help to navigate through tough times.
- More Than Just a Meal: Sharing a meal in our kitchen is more than just nourishment; it’s about community, hope and solidarity. It’s a reminder that no one has to face their challenges alone.
- Addressing Deeper Issues: Beyond feeding the hungry, we connect people with additional resources, from mental health support to social services, helping address the root causes of poverty and economic distress.
- Building Resilience: Our kitchen fosters a community that stands together, providing pathways toward stability, self-sufficiency and a brighter future.
Together, we can make a difference. Visit the Veteran and Community Kitchen today and be a part of something bigger—a community united in compassion, support and change.
