Charity of the Year 2022 Anxious Minds is Highly Commended.

Unfortunately, in this instance, Anxious Minds did not win the Award, but the judges wanted me to pass on to you how impressed they were by the support that Anxious Minds has offered during the pandemic and since, and as a result, Anxious Minds is Highly Commended.

Anxious Minds is a non-profit organisation that is committed to providing support and assistance to individuals suffering from mental health issues in the North East region of the UK. The charity was founded in 2015 with the goal of improving the mental health and well-being of people in the community. The team at Anxious Minds is made up of dedicated professionals who understand the unique challenges that individuals with mental health issues face and are committed to providing the necessary support and resources to help them overcome these challenges.

One of the ways that Anxious Minds has been able to make a significant impact in the community is through their Social Prescribing Service. This service is designed to provide support and resources to individuals who have been referred by local GP’s, NHS Trusts, private healthcare providers and Integrated Care Systems (ICS). The Social Prescribing Service is a way for these organisations to connect their patients with the wide range of indoor and outdoor support services that Anxious Minds offers.

The Social Prescribing Service has been particularly effective during the pandemic as it has helped individuals who were struggling with mental health issues to access the support they need while also reducing the burden on healthcare providers. In recognition of the impact that Anxious Minds has had on the community, the charity has been Highly Commended in the Inspirational Story category of the UK Mental Health Awards 2022.

Anxious Minds is honoured to receive this recognition and would like to thank all of the individuals and organisations who have helped to make this possible. The team at Anxious Minds is committed to continuing to provide support and assistance to the community and will continue to innovate and improve their services to better serve the needs of individuals with mental health issues.

Winner of the Soldiering On Award 2021

Anxious Minds are delighted to have won the Soldiering on award 2021 (health and rehabilitation award).

We have a combined experience of over 80 years working within the Armed Forces Community

It should be obvious that working in a uniformed service can bring danger and stress. Every day our uniformed services work long hours in sometimes very dangerous conditions. They keep us all safe, but sometimes this can come at a personal cost.

It’s an unfortunate reality that these people can, and often do get hurt physically and mentally. It can be the same for veterans of all of the services. A soldier out on the front line, witnessing horrors that many of us could probably never imagine.

These can lead to PTSD, depression, phobias, anxiety, relationship problems, drink and drugs.

Anxious Minds understands that wounds sustained in the service of your duties is not always physical and can affect anyone,  Our founder was diagnosed with clinical depression, chronic anxiety and PTSD, after he left the Armed Forces on completion of 22 years of service and struggled to find support.  We understand that the real battle for those affected in service can often begin at home. We are able to offer confidential support to those suffering from anxiety and depression, safe in the knowledge that they will be looked after and supported when needed.

It is crucial to understand that, no matter how much of a grip your anxiety or depression has on you at the moment, it CAN be removed or managed with the right support, together we can beat anxiety and depression. If you are a veteran of any of the services, then just give us a call.

Distinguished Points of Light Award by the Prime Minister

Eddie Dean, from Newcastle, used his army pension to fund his charity ‘Anxious Minds’ and help other veterans struggling with mental health issues gets Prime Ministers Points of Light Award.

Eddie Dean points of light award

After dedicating 22 years to the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which included serving in Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia and Northern Ireland, Eddie struggled to return to civilian life and was diagnosed with chronic anxiety, clinical depression and PTSD.

He credits the vital support he received from the North East charity ‘Saving Lives’ for his recovery, and this support inspired him to launch his own charity ‘Anxious Minds’ to specifically help veterans in his local area who were struggling with mental ill health.

The charity provides free support groups, counselling and mindfulness and relaxation techniques for people who are on the waiting list for medical support. Under his leadership the charity has secured funding from the National Lottery Fund and received an award from the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces’ Covenant Fund.

In a personal letter to Eddie, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“You have shown remarkable dedication in ensuring veterans can access mental health support with your charity ‘Anxious Minds’. You know from first-hand experience what a difference this help can make and now, thanks to your hard work, veterans living in the North East can also benefit from this same support. I want to thank you for your inspiring commitment to supporting men and women, like yourself, who have risked their lives to serve our country.”

What is the Points of Light Award?

The Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award is a prestigious recognition presented by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through voluntary service.

Established in partnership with the Points of Light organization, the award highlights the significant impact of volunteer work and celebrates those who have gone above and beyond to improve the lives of others.

Recipients of the Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award come from diverse backgrounds and contribute in various ways, including charitable initiatives, community projects, and acts of kindness.

The award serves not only to recognize their efforts but also to inspire others to engage in volunteerism and community service. Each honoree receives a personalized certificate signed by the Prime Minister, acknowledging their exceptional dedication and positive influence.

Mary Glindon, Eddie’s local MP for North Tyneside, said:

“I would like to congratulate Eddie on receiving the Points of Light Award.  He is truly a worthy recipient of this award as someone, who has faced up to his own mental health issues and put the help he received to good use, in turn, to helping others.  He is a credit to himself, to those he supports through his charity and to the whole of North Tyneside.”

Eddie said:

“I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of myself and the team of volunteers here at ‘Anxious Minds’. We work very hard at ‘Anxious Minds’ to improve the mental health services here in the North East and feel humbled to have this recognised by the Prime Minister. On behalf of myself and the team, we thank you.”
